It’s almost that time of year again where for one day, I don’t have to think about what to eat/what to cook – you take the time to enjoy some quality time with your special someone. While I personally don’t celebrate Valentines Day, I know many people who do and often times, I get asked for recommendations for ‘the best restaurant’, ‘the best meal to make’ etc. So I thought I’d put a round up here for those lovely folks who ask me every year and anyone else who might need some ideas.
I wanted to put together a broad mix of items so that it’ll fit everyone’s wallets, so without further ado, here are some ideas for Valentines or any other special occasion:
$$$$-$$$
Landeau Flowers – There is something about receiving a beautiful and vibrant bucket of roses. At the price point of $250, these are definitely for a special occasion!
TWG Tea – Another world class tea company TWG has recently opened up here in Vancouver, upping our city’s glam factor. There are so many teas to choose from here, but thankfully there are specialists who can help you pick the perfect one. These beautiful and ornate tea tins and the lovely teas start at $20. You could also come here for high tea ($48)!
Thierry – Thierry is one of my favourite places in the city and during this time, they offer Romeo and Juliet cakes. The Romeo cake comprises of chocolate, caramel and hazelnut. The Juliet cake is made with lemon, raspberry and rose. If you’re looking for a sweet treat, this is a beautiful option ($21.95).
Laduree Macarons – The macarons that started the craze, we are lucky to have a Laduree here in Vancouver. Get that special someone the best – a box of macarons here cost about $30 (for 8).
Cavalia – A mix of equestrian, stage and high-tech theatrical arts, this is definitely a fun show that takes it’s viewers through a dreamlike story. Tickets are $139.50.

Cupcakes – Cupcakes began right here in Vancouver and provides some picture-perfect (read: Instagram-worthy) cupcakes with some great flavours! (Cupcakes $3.50, Mini $1.90, Cakes $32)
Cacao70 – You’d be hard pressed to find someone who would refuse chocolate. Let alone drinking chocolate, or chocolate fondue. (Starting at $8).
The Little Mermaid – Tap into your inner kid and watch The Little Mermaid musical at the Michael J Fox Theatre! (Tickets are $39).
Odd Society Creme de cassis and Prosecco – They keep popping up on my lists, yes, but it’s just that good! Grab a bottle of creme de cassis and pick up a bottle of prosecco – one of my favourite treats! ($25 for the Creme de Cassis)
Yolks’ Chicken and Waffles – Yo, if someone treated me to chicken and waffles from Yolks, you’ll get my love and attention. Their chicken is breaded and crispy but still quite tender in the middle, slather on that chicken gravy and maple syrup and you’ve got yourself a perfect meal. ($14)

It’s super easy to create a simple meal at home. I’d recommend going to your local store and buy a couple of steaks and make this super easy mushroom risotto. Don’t forget to throw in some greens – I’d say gai lan or broccoli. (Approximately $40 with all ingredients for 2 people).
To create a delicious non-alcoholic cocktail, go to Ikea and purchase their Dryck Fläder (ie Elderflower syrup – $4.99) and mix it with some Sprite/7up.
