It was a warm day in July when I was invited by Kathryn and Lyndsey to the Triple O’s On The Go event. On my arrival, I was warmly greeted by them, the director of operations- Scott Lewis and Warren Erhart, the President of White Spot Limited and Triple O’s. They gave me a walk through their enormous food truck, with a very clean and shiny interior with a bevy of chefs and got me up to speed with what their intentions are for the truck.

It’s hard to ignore the press that they have received in recent days with other food trucks worried about big restaurant chains creeping on their territory but Scott and Warren clarified that their intentions were to not compete with the other food trucks.

White Spot and Triple O’s are known for their support in the community, participating in local charity events – where they would set up tent and feed the masses. From what I got from the both of them, this would be the main function of their food truck – so that it would be easier than to ‘haul BBQs around’.

The second function would be a test kitchen of sorts, with a variety of flavours not on the regular menu at their restaurants and to get feedback from the crowds. From this feedback, they may change their menu appropriately.

Anyway, I was in good company that day, Dennis Pang, his fiancee May, Kevin from 604Foodtography and Eating In Vancouver’s Gary and Taya. There was also Raul (Hummingbird604), Joyce of Vanfoodies.com and many more.

Okay now onto the most important thing – the FOOD! There was a little menu waiting for us on every picnic table that told us what was in store for us.

First up was the Pulled Pork Poutine. With tender pulled pork, Montreal cheese curds and sweet and spicy BBQ sauce atop White Spot’s famous fries – this poutine was definitely a treat. I can’t really say I’m a big fan of pulled pork but I enjoyed the White Spot version of it.

Our next course was the BBQ Bacon Burger. (Hmm I just realized all these names aliterate. Cool). It was a fairly huge burger when they plopped it down in front of me, Kevin was measuring it up against his fist. It could’ve easily been two and a half times his fist (maybe more).

Inside the burger was a Chipotle mayo and BBQ sauce with caramelized onions, cheddar cheese, bacon atop their beef patty and a bed of lettuce and tomato. There was mostly a great BBQ flavour to it with a hint of the chipotle, a great summer time meal. On it’s own, this burger is formidable – I do like how White Spot uses cheddar in their burgers (BC Chicken Burger is one of my faves!)

Finally we got to try two of their milkshakes they were testing out: Candied Orange Creamsicle and the Peanut Butter Mocha.

I have to be honest, I’m not a big fan of anything to do with orange creamsicles, but I did enjoy this milkshake a lot. It was not too sweet, didn’t have a very tangy orangey taste (which always puts me off when I’m having something sweet and fruity) and it had crushed vanilla bean in it!

The Peanut Butter Mocha was decadent, very rich and tasted like I was eating a melted Reese peanut butter cup. It’s made with peanut butter, chocolate sauce and espresso. If I was going to order this at White Spot, this could probably be a meal in its own.

Scott told us that these milkshakes would be served in two sizes 16oz and 24oz. I think I’ll stick to the 16 ounces!

Afterwards we played a little game that had us balancing eggs on spoons and the winner received a picnic pack! Unfortunately I’m not very coordinated and didn’t win, but congrats to May for winning the prize!

Thanks for having me, I had a great time and look forward in trying your new dishes when I see you guys around town!
